TREE SURGERY & GENERAL MAINTENANCE

Oakland has been providing arboricultural services (tree management, maintenance, forestry and tree surgery) since 2006.

All trees and hedges near to a property need good management.  Working in harmony with Solihull MBC and other Local Authorities we fully understand the restrictions of Tree Preservation Orders (TPO's) and Conservation Areas. 

We work all the time in the community.  We want to protect our environment for the future.  So unlike other 'fly-by' businesses, to protect both you and us, we will ask the local planning team to check for any work restrictions. 

There is nothing we haven't tackled and we can advise and guide you through the process we will undertake.  Whether a crane, cherry picker or climbing the trees we can handle all situations.

Working in a Major Urban Environment

Working in a major urban environment we understand the need to carry out the tasks in a safe manner to both life and property.

It's easy to take off a large bough or fell a complete tree.  It's a lot harder making sure it doesn't fall through a roof, the neighbours shed, new summer house or fence!  If crane work is needed then we'll arrange it all for you.

We take care.  We think things through and we work as a team with climbers and ground workers ensuring all aspects of safety are covered to ensure you, your family, your animals or business are protected.

NB Since we started in 2006 we have never had to claim on our Public Liability insurance.

TPO Maintenance: Rodborough Road, Dorridge

Work Type: Approved Canopy Reduction, dead wood and epicormic growth removal.

This project involved professional maintenance of a protected tree to comply with Solihull Council's safety and conservation standards.

• Approved Specifications: The project included a canopy reduction to manage the spread, crown lifting for highway clearance, and deadwood removal for structural safety.
• Specialist Equipment: We utilised a tracked spider lift (MEWP) to reach the upper canopy safely without damaging the roadside or residential property.
• High-Traffic Management: Full roadside safety protocols, including cones and signage, were implemented on Rodborough Road to ensure the safety of pedestrians and drivers.

​EMERGENCY WORK

We understand that waking up to a fallen tree that has smashed through a fence and neighbour's greenhouse sets the stomach churning!  Or a major bough that's fallen on your drive and just missed your car makes you wonder what else is coming down!

However, we'll always try and minimise the distress that's often caused when unforeseen events arise.  ​

Just a call to us and we'll take the problem on board.

We'll quickly form a team that's needed to minimise the problem bringing in crane hire if necessary.

Emergency Response: Lady Byron Lane, Knowle
​Date: May 11, 2024
Location: Lady Byron Lane, Solihull
Priority: Emergency Call-Out – Storm Damage
Following severe weather, our team was dispatched to Lady Byron Lane to manage a critical situation involving a large, storm-damaged tree overhanging the main road.
The Incident
​The damaged tree posed an immediate hazard to life and property.  To ensure public safety and restore the transport link, we initiated an emergency dismantle.
Our Solution

• Specialist Equipment: Utilised a heavy-duty crane to stabilize and lift heavy sections safely away from the highway and nearby residential structures.
• Precision Climbing: Our arborists performed high-access work to dismantle the remaining crown while the crane supported the weight.
• Infrastructure Protection: Successfully cleared the route, allowing the bus service to resume safely and preventing further damage to property or vehicles.

​The recent storm has resulted in significant structural damage to a large tree situated along a key local bus route. The damage posed an immediate risk to public safety and transport infrastructure.
Incident Summary

• Public Safety: The compromised limbs required an immediate emergency call-out to prevent further injury or vehicle damage.
